Local Priorities Vehicle Crime - theft from / theft of Update

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Vehicle Crime - theft from / theft of, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

A man has been charged with a number of offences after officers located a stolen vehicle near Whitchurch.

Officers noticed a Citroen Berlingo – which had been stolen from the Aylesbury area in Buckinghamshire – on the A34 at Tufton at around 8pm on 2 August.

A man was arrested at the scene.

Following a number of enquiries, Edward Parker, 44, of Pippin Drive, Chesterton, Cambs, was charged with:

- Theft of a motor vehicle x 2
- Theft from a motor vehicle x 6
- Drive a motor vehicle dangerously
- Drive whilst disqualified x 2
- Drive a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit
- Use a motor vehicle without third party insurance x 2

The other charges relate to reports that items including handbags, driving licences, car keys, number platers, and an iPhone, laptop and iPad were stolen from vehicles in Sutton Scotney, Wickham, Sparsholt and Petersfield between 24 May and 24 June.

It was also reported that a VW Golf was stolen from Rowlands Castle on 26 May.

Parker appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates Court yesterday (4 August) and pleaded guilty to all offences.

He was remanded into custody and is due to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on 5 September.
